How to Set Up a Google Business Profile

1. Create a Google Account

To create a Google Business Profile, you need a Google account. If you already have a personal Gmail address, you can use it, but we recommend creating a separate Google account exclusively for your business. Here’s how to set it up:

Go to accounts.google.com and click on the “Create Account” button. When presented with options, skip the “For work or business” option as it is a paid service. Instead, choose “For personal use,” which is free. Enter your name and date of birth, then click “Next.” You’ll be prompted to create a Gmail address or use an existing one.

Click “Next” and then set your password.

2. Set Up Your Google Business Profile

Go to Google Business and sign in using your newly created Google account. Enter your business name in the field. If an existing profile does not appear, select the option “Create a business with this name.” Click “Continue.”

3. Choose Your Business Type

If your business has a physical location, such as a store or office where customers can visit, choose the local store option. Next, select your business category that best represents the primary service you offer.

Enter your address, phone number, and website. Click “Next.” On the next page, agree to Google’s terms and conditions.

If your business operates by visiting customers at their location, such as landscapers, plumbers, etc., select the “Service Business” option.

Here’s how to do it: Select “Service Business” and choose a business category using the same approach as for physical locations. Next, set up your service area. This specifies where you serve customers.

You can add up to 20 locations, but Google only allows locations within a two-hour driving radius.

Click “Next.” Enter your contact phone number and website, then click “Next” again. Agree to Google’s terms and conditions.

4. Verify Your Profile

Phone Verification: Google will call the phone number you provided with an automated message containing a code. Simply enter this code into your profile to complete verification.

Mail Verification: Google will send a five-digit code to your business address. Once it arrives, log in to your account and enter the code to confirm your profile.

Video Verification: Your video must be a continuous recording and cover three key aspects of your business:

  1. Your location – If you have a store, capture nearby street signs.
  2. Proof of your business category – Show your products, equipment, or tools used for services. If you are in a service-based industry, display branded vehicles, tools, or a business card related to your services.
  3. Proof of ownership or management – Record yourself unlocking the door, showing payment tools, or displaying an official document with your business address.

You don’t need to include everything—just ensure you have at least one clear example for each point.

5. Add Services

At this stage, Google will prompt you to add services to your business listing. If you offer something not listed, click “Add service” and enter it manually.

6. Add Business Hours

Select the days you are open and enter your opening and closing times.

7. Add a Business Description

Write a brief description of your business, highlighting what makes you stand out and how you can help your customers.

  • Upload photos of your products or services, and interior and exterior shots of your store, company vehicles, or your team.

To access your profile, simply login to Google with the account you created. Then, type “My Business” in the Google search bar, and your management panel will appear.
